Every time I open a new IE window, and another e-mail has arrived, usually
spam, I get surprised by the "mail truck" sound. I tried to find the sound file and delete it, but I can't find it. I know I could turn my speakers off, but that ruins other sounds I want to hear. I went to Control Panel/Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices/Change the Sound Scheme/Sounds/ went in the box and changed "New Mail Notification" to where is does not have a cartoon of a speaker next to it, changed the box below that, where it says "Sounds" to (None), clicked "Apply", saved the sound scheme in the highest box within the "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" box and STILL I get that damn mail truck sound when I open IE and mail has arrived. This is really frustrating. |

Where is the mail arriving?
If in Outlook Express, go to Tools, Options, General, and uncheck Play Sound. But I suspect that some other program is notifying you of mail. You'll need to identify that program and change its settings. Several programs use the "New Mail Notification" sound, including Outlook Express. And since changing that sound didn't fix the problem, it's not Outlook Express that is your issue. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Pud Knocker" wrote in message ink.net... Hi Pud,
The new mail notification sound works for POP3 e-mail received in Outlook Express, not Internet Explorer. If you can clarify the circumstances of when the sound of the "mail truck" is heard it should be possible to direct you to the right newsgroup for the question. Is your new mail sound heard when using Web-based e-mail? When you went to the Sounds Control Panel did you hear the "mail truck" when previewing the new mail sound? -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Pud Knocker" wrote in message ink.net... I hear the "mail truck" sound when I open a new IE window (which is set to
my earthlink.net home page), and a new e-mail has arrived. I never use the web-based e-mail, I only use Outlook Express. I can't preview the new e-mail sound because I removed the "speaker" icon next to "New Mail Notifivation". Not only that, but I also set the sound to (None). And I created a new sound scheme which should include the new setting of no sound for new e-mail. But despite all that, I still am forced to listen to the irritating "mail truck" when I open a new IE window, and another piece of spam has been sent to me. "Kuay Tim" wrote in message ... Hi Paul,
This does not appear to be an OE issue. The mail truck sound is apparently Web-based (sound arrives when opening the browser page when a new message is available). I'm not familiar with the Earthlink software, but there may be a local setting for the sound. Earthlink e-mail support should be able to answer the question. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Pud Knocker" wrote in message nk.net... Uninstall the totally unnecessary Earthlink software and see if it goes
away. If you disabled a sound for "New Mail Notification" and "Play a sound..." at OE Tools Options General, the sound is/was not coming from OE. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Security, Shell/User) Pud Knocker wrote: I hear the "mail truck" sound when I open a new IE window (which is set to my earthlink.net home page), and a new e-mail has arrived. I didn't have any Earthlink software on my computer. All I had was my
Earthlink homepage set as IE's homepage. What I decided to do was to change my homepage to something else. I just sent myself an e-mail to test it, and now when I open a new IE window, there is no "mail truck" to be heard. Thanks to everybody for their responses. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... That would indicate that the EarthLink home page is configured to play
the sound if there are any new mail messages on the server. There's likely a configuration option for your EarthLink home page to turn that feature off. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Pud Knocker" wrote in message ink.net...
