I apologize if this has been covered. My mom has a pc and she has TONS of
email stored on it. We want to clean it up. Is there a way to turn off the warning when you go to delete an email? And is there a way to select more than one at a time and delete them? Thanks for any and all Advice. Laura |

Hi Laura,
It's easy to select more than one message. Here are some (Windows) tips for doing so: *Select All ------------- Do this from the Edit menu. *Select a Contiguous Group ------------- Select one message Select another message while holding the Shift key Scroll if necessary Both selected message headers and all in between will be selected *Select chosen headers ------------- Hold the Ctrl key while selecting individual message headers Each message header will remain selected After the selecting is done use the toolbar delete button (Red X) or choose Delete from the Edit menu. I would not be concerned about the warning, it may be helpful one day. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "Laura Mac" Laura wrote in message ... well, she says after she selects them all (my mother) she has tried dragging
them to the trash, hitting delete and when she does that they all come unhighlighted. My question would be if you select 100 messages to delete, will it ask you for everyone if you want to delete them? thanks Laura I am not near an xp computer so I can't show her....sorry. |

You have at least one corrupted folder. Start by deleting the Deleted Items
folder and see if that does the job. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Deleted Items.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Laura Mac" wrote in message ... well, she says after she selects them all (my mother) she has tried dragging them to the trash, hitting delete and when she does that they all come unhighlighted.
