Why do I receive messages addressed to someone other than me? Sometimes a string of addresses. Can I block those? Thanks.

It's called Spam, Marty. You're address is in the BCC field so you can't see it. The only thing OE has to offer is to filter in your mail.

Why do I receive messages addressed to someone other than me? Sometimes a string of addresses. Can I block those? Thanks. Email is delivered to an SMTP "RCPT TO" email address. The POP3 server is not required to identify this email address. Think of an envelope, and a secretary who opens mail, discarding the envelope. What you see on the mail was inside of the envelope. Where the email is delivered is outside of the envelope. P.S. What is the difference between this forum and "public. outlookexpress" ....outlookexpress.general would have a broader scope of coverage because, technically, windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress specifies the versio of MS Outlook Express included with MS Internet Explorer 6, as opposed to MS Internet Explorer 5.0, or 5.5. Generally, if you think a post would be appropriate in two different groups, you should cross post. You would just add the second newsgroup name to the "Newsgroups:" field in the compose window. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Okay, I have some familiartiy with message rules but I guess not enough to
get rid of the same sort of problem the originator of this post has.....I am receiving mail where I am not in the to address and there is a sender in the from address. The link mentioned filtering on BCC but I see no way of doing that when I just looked at message rules again.....???? "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... It's called Spam, Marty. What Ron is saying is if you get BCC mail from a friend, not a Spammer,
creating this rule will allow BCC from your friend, but not other people. Your friend isn't going to keep changing the From an To fields. Where the From line contains people Stop processing more rules Click on Contains people and Add the address your good BCC comes from. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Yolanda Martin" wrote in message news:HC6Gf.22666$sA3.20133@fed1read02... I just created the rule you suggested, tested it to see that I am receiving
mail where I am in either to or cc and then tested where I was a bcc and the rule works as intended deleting the where I am a bcc but allowing it to inbox if I am in to or cc ( and even if a friend does bcc me I don't want it.......if they try to email me that way and it does go into the delete they will know not to bcc againother wise I would have to list all friends I might receive from who would bcc???) I looked for but did not find any OE ability to bcc and Incredimail doesn't have bcc either but my yahoo.com mail did and that is how I tested by sending from my yahoo mail to my OE mail. Thank you so much because I have never utilized the options of the message rules before now. "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ...
