Hi:
I have a friend who inadvertently deleted a local named folder "Saved Inbox Mail" that contained a number of local folders under it. Is there anyway that I can recover this Outlook Express 6 local folder that would have these subfolders within it? Thanks |

Although there are subfolders, they are really separate folders.
Have you checked Deleted Items for the missing folders? What is the Windows version? If XP/SP2, are there bak files for the missing folders in either the Recycle Bin, or Message Store? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "ColTom2" wrote in message ... Hi Bruce:
He has XP/SP2 and all items deleted in OE are set to be auto deleted when OE is exited so there is nothing in the Recycle Bin. As to the Message Store how would I find them there and if they are there then recover this folder? I would think it would be named Saved Inbox Mail.dbx? Thanks "Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... Nevertheless, is there one or more files named 'SAVED INBOX MAIL.BAK' in
Recycle Bin? -- ~PA Bear ColTom2 wrote: Hi Bruce: He has XP/SP2 and all items deleted in OE are set to be auto deleted when OE is exited so there is nothing in the Recycle Bin. Deleted Items is in Outlook Express. The Recycle Bin is on the Desktop. Two
different things. When OE compacts, a copy of all dbx files will be sent to the Recycle Bin, and or, the message store. These files have an extension of bak, rather than dbx. Check both the Recycle Bin and the message store for bak files for the missing folders. Note: You have a folder named Saved Inbox Mail with subfolders. There will be a file for each folder, not just Saved Inbox Mail. They are separate folders as far as OE is concerned, even if they were under one folder. The message store location: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write down the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. Look for the following and post back before you do anything. Are there bak, and or dbx files for Saved Inbox Mail /and/ all the subfolders in the message store? How you restore depends on what you find. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "ColTom2" wrote in message ... How can I restore the folder that is in the Message Store which is a .dbx
file? I can see the folder, but when I try to import it within the stores location the folder name does not appear for being able to Import. Thanks Bruce Hagen" wrote in message ... The normal import does not work for a single folder. Do this for the folder
you want to restore. If there is more than one, do them one at a time. In the message store in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx file for the missing folder and drag it to the Desktop at the top of the folder tree. Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your Desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "ColTom2" wrote in message ... How can I restore the folder that is in the Message Store which is a .dbx file? Is there anyway that I can recover this Outlook Express 6 local folder that would have these subfolders within it? 1. Search the whole hard drive for SAV*.DBX 2. When found, note its full filespec, then import its messages into OE the usual way. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |
