Default Sent email goes directly to outbox & stays there

I'd appreciate any help I can get -- I'm at my wits end over this..this
problem just started in Outlook Express 6. When I send email it goes
directly to the outbox and stays there. I hit "send & receive" and nothing
happens then get a time out error message. I called my ISP, we recreated my
user email name, password, checked the modem; everything they were supposed
to do worked. They said it was McAfee. I called Dell and we uninstalled
McAfeee and it still doesn't work -- I can receive emails fine, only sending
them is the problem. Any ideas? Running Windows XP pro; I did all the
updates as well. Please help?

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that just eats up CPUs and can cause time-outs, especially
with a large e-mail.

Move any mail you want to keep out of your Outbox.
Toolsoptionsmaintenancestore folder and note the location.
Close OE.
In Windows Explorer, find and delete Outbox.dbx
Open OE and a new empty Outbox will be created.
Try sending your mail now.
Note that you may have to enable "show hidden files and folders" via
control panelfolder optionsview before you can find Outbox.dbx
If still no joy, do the same for Sent Items.dbx

You're welcome. Thanks for posting back.
(And best to keep McAfee uninstalled. Better still throw it in the bin
and use AVG instead. Much recommended. You can get the free version
here -
