Default Problems Replying and Forwarding Email

I'm still running Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 6.0. In Outlook Express I
can no longer reply or forward any email. There is no error code, just states
error and gives me the option to go back. What I can't explain is that it
happened on 2 machines. My first thought was that the problem exists on my
ISP's end and not my machines. It seems very strange that 2 machines are
effected with the same condition. Can anyone help me to resolve this?

Thank You
Don

Default Problems Replying and Forwarding Email

Can you send a new message OK? If not, the Outbox may be damaged.

If you can send new mail, you may have a damaged identity. File | Identity |
Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can
import your messages from the old identity and delete it.

A general warning:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move
your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no
folders are open. Then: FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in
the Status Bar). FileFolderCompact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

In ToolsOptionsMaintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.
