Default NTUSER.DAT 6.4MB - What's this about?

located in my "Owner" Directory:

NTUSER.DAT 6.4MB
also, ntuser.dat.LOG 1KB
---------------------

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS LARGE,IN-USE, FILE ON MY MAIN HARD DRIVE?
I can't read these files because they are "in use by another process."
Can they be deleted?
AK

It's not an Outlook Express issue.
Its holds the Windows user profiles.

Bruce - I have been having some prolems with OE and noticed this big file
that's active.
Don't know what it does, so just wondering if having to drop back on my
software setups to get things running right might be related to "ntuser."
What is its purpose? AK

OK - guess I am in the wrong group Tom.
Where should I be asking my question?
I would gather that such a big file is OK & normal?

That holds info on your user profile. I gets larger as you add software.
Don't touch it until you ask someone more experienced with it, preferably in
an XP newsgroup.

Windows XP General Newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...dowsxp.general

If you are having problems with Outlook Express, we can help if you provide
details.

The User Registry has NOTHING to do with OE.

This is a OS question and 6.4MB for the User Registry is normal.

Please don't Multi-Post.
Please learn to Cross-Post to pertinent, On Topic News Groups instead.

This subject matter is NOT On Topic here.

Oh, wait... AOL user. No wonder!
