They are stored in the registry.

I was not looking for a way to manually add subscriptions.

Someplace, there has to be a file that maintains the list of

subscriptions.
If I can find that file, I can restore it from a backup.

All I find in the regustry are th eaccoubt settings.
Did not find any listing of subscribed newsgroups.

In much less time than it took you to do all that you could have gone to
Tools Newsgroups, re-subscribed and caught up.
