Default Exporting mail and backing up- Help!

Having grappled with the system of compacting folders and storing them and
making numerous errors landing up with different stores I am beginning to
understand what I am now doing but I still have some queries.
When trying to delete these extra stores I eventually found that all my data
on the inbox, sent items etc were blank so I had to restore all the deleted
items which still leaves me with duplicate files
When I compact folders every month are they added to the existing folders or
do they replace folders already there?
Backing up the store to an external disk I noticed that after I transferred
folders there were a large number of copy folders listed. Is this as a
precaution or are they part of the backup?

Asked/answered yesterday in OE General newsgroup.

If you want to send identical messages to more than one newsgroup, please
crosspost one message to all the groups. This way if a post is replied to in
one group, it will also be replied to in the other group(s) as well. Thank
you.

maiusay is a spammer and was already in my Kill-file, so I did not see his
message, not that he would have posted one.

You never responded to my first reply to your original post in the OE
General newsgroup on 3/02/08. If that was not helpful, please continue in
that thread with your questions and concerns.
