Default Address Book - maybe an old question

Plan to do a complete RESTORE of my laptop. Would like to save the address
book. Thought it was a .wab file - search found nothing. Where does MS
store the address book -or- what is its tag?

BTW, did a comp RESTORE on a desktop - was well worth the effort. However,
thought the address book went along with the INBOX and like stuff. Not so.
Thus lost all contacts on that machine. (Inbox, etc files kept on another
physical disk).

Thank You for what may be a question asked again and again!

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

You are correct, .wab is a address book file, and most likely in Application
Data folder.

I should mention, by default, the Application Data folder is hidden on
Windows XP.

To show hidden files.

Go to Control panel and open Folder Options or open My Documents, choose
Tools on the menu bar, then choose Folder Options on it's menu. Either way
opens the Folder Options dialog window. Choose the View tab then tick "Show
hidden files and folders", click OK.

While there you might also want to uncheck "Hide file extension for known
file types"

Ken
PS: if you are using search to find .wab be sure to use Advanced Options and
select to search in hidden files/folders.

Address Book Location:
http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/where.htm#findwab

Open the Address Book | File | Export | Address Book (wab) either to a CD,
or another location on your HDD and burn from there. Copy the CD to a folder
on the new machine. Right click on it | Properties and remove the Read Only
attribute. Open the Address Book | File | Import | Address Book (wab) and
point to where you saved it.

Default Address Book - maybe an old question

Open the address book and select Help, About Address Book. It will tell
you the full file name.

If that is blank, it means that you have set OE to share the Office
Outlook contacts and the contacts are in the Outlook PST file. OE is
not using a WAB file in that case.

Thank You to All. Also, I did not realize that the Search routine does
not "see" hidden files.
Tks!

WGD,
When you start the "Search" wizard and choose "All files and folders" to
search. Select "More Advance Options", and put a checkmark to include Hidden
files.
