Trying to move a bunch of msgs from the sent folder to other folders (like
"old sent"). Now that the "old sent.dbx" file is about 2gb, I can no longer move any messages into it. I get an error in OE. Also I get an error during the compaction that says the file is currently in use by OE or another application (this for a couple of the OE folders). Well, it's certainly not another application (that I can see) and I set OE to work offline before beginning the compacting. I knew that Outlook had a 2gb file limitation, but I learned on this forum that OE did not have that same limitation, yet it does appear to. Also, I'm unable to compact the existing sent items folder, which is only about 1.8gb on the hard drive. I have moved a lot of stuff out, and I suspect the compacting would greatly reduce the filesize, but it won't compact (though all the other folders will). Make multiple folders and move the messages to them keeping them at 100MB
each. If you successfully get the messages moved and the folders still won't compact, back them up first and then post back and we'll make a new, clean Sent Items folder. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Bill H." wrote in message ... I knew that Outlook had a 2gb file limitation, but I learned on this forum
that OE did not have that same limitation, yet it does appear to. Izzat so?... Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095 The above notwithstanding, what Bruce said. General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. = hint - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm. - Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only). - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org Bill H. wrote: Trying to move a bunch of msgs from the sent folder to other folders (like "old sent").
