I cannot find a way to import plain text email messages from a bespoke system
into Outlook Express. OE seems only to import existing PST files, or a limited number of other commercial packages. Does anybody know how I can import these messages? mjt |

Windows version?
From what Mail Client are you attempting to import the messages, Martin? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org Martin James Thornhill wrote: I cannot find a way to import plain text email messages from a bespoke system into Outlook Express. What format can the Bespoke e-mail system export to?
If you have individual text files (one per message) and they include the full Internet mail headers, then you can rename the TXT files to EML files (e.g. rename MESSAGE1.TXT to MESSAGE1.EML) and then drag-and-drop the EML files into an open OE mail folder. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Martin James Thornhill" wrote in message ... Windows 2000; the mail client is Turnpike v6. No, you'll not have heard of
it! It exports all emails in plain text format, i.e. as they appeared on Unix terminals... To:.. From:... Via:... Subject:.... and a whole host of header crapola before getting to the message. Probably a character 255 to terminate the message and the next message follows it immediately. Turnpike calls this the "Berkeley milabox file, *.txt". Turnpike currently holds my emails from 1999 to the present day, so it's a huge database! "PA Bear" wrote: Windows version? If all the messages are in one file, then that sounds like the MBOX
format. MBOX File Format: http://www.qmail.org/qmail-manual-html/man5/mbox.html Here is a utility with instructions that you can use to convert the Netscape/Eudora MBOX format mail files to OE4 MBX files: http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/files/e2m.zip You can then use one of the following two programs to convert the OE4 MBX files to EML files (one message per file). Then you can drag-and-drop the EML files into open OE5+ mail folders. OUTDUMP.EXE - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_san...es/outdump.zip MBXtract - http://www.oehelp.com/MBXtract/Default.aspx -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Martin James Thornhill" wrote in message ...
