I have already posted this to my ISP (zen), but thought this group might
help. Problem: ******** I am moving my mail from this computer to another. Both are on XP PRO and I have succesfully transferred messages and have set up the new computer exactly as this one but I can't get it to work. I have examined the original instructions you gave with passwords etc. and I cannot see anything wrong. When I try to receive mail I get: The server responded with an error. Account: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Server: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 The server responded with an error. Account: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk (1)', Server: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 The server responded with an error. Account: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk (2)', Server: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 The server responded with an error. Account: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk (4)', Server: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 The server responded with an error. Account: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk (5)', Server: 'Mailhost.zen.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90 ********* Please help. I have gone to a lot of work to transfer and I would not like to go back. Since then, I find there is no problem SENDING emails. I have tried everything to delete OE completely, through "Add/remove windows components" and from Explorer but to no avail. When using Explorer I am getting the message that someone/some program is using OE. I have emptied my system tray and deleted VSmon.exe (zoneAlarm) and still can't clear it. If I could find a way to delete OE completely, I am quite happy to start from scratch as I have safeguarded the messages folder. On recollecting, I think I know how this problem may have arisen. A few nights back when I was downloading software, I got a failure which invited me to send an email. Unusually it had to go through my email system and I think I quoted the in and out servers as POP3 rather than mailhost.zen.co.uk. There was something that wasn't right anyway. Is it possible that some program somewhere is holding on to OE? This is why I am happy to start from scratch if I could get rid of the present OE. Thanks PS I have just successfully used OE in my Media Center without problem. These computers are all set up the same way. |

Hi Tony,
Are you using anti-virus message scan? This feature can, and often does, cause connection errors. Normal system scan will still protect a PC. It is sometimes necessary to re-enter account information after using message scan. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "TonyK" wrote in message ... Disable email scanning by AVG. It provides no additional protection and
even Symantec says it's not necessary: paste Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /paste http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org TonyK wrote: I have already posted this to my ISP (zen), but thought this group might help. Thanks all.
Everything OK now. This time I removed AVG completely. Then built up OE again. and all OK. Re-installed AVG WITHOUT email facilities. "PA Bear" wrote in message ... Disable email scanning by AVG.
