Default Error Message When Compacting Folder

Whenever I attempt to compact a folder I have created, the following error
message is displayed:

The folder is currrently in use by Outlook Express or by another application.

Outlook Express is able to compact the other folders without displaying an
error message.

I have restarted the computer several times and cleared the Temporary
Internet Files.

I would appreciate any suggestions you have in being able to compact this
folder without receiving an error message.

Thank you.

Try File, Work Offline before trying the compact.

If you continue to have problems, the folder is probably corrupted.

Try creating a new mail folder, then COPY the existing messages to the
new folder. If that works, then delete the old folder.

If that fails, you can try one of the following programs to recover some
messages from the corrupted folder:
DBXtract - http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx
DBXpress - http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx
DBXtend - http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtend/Default.aspx

Default Error Message When Compacting Folder

Mike,

I did put Outlook Express into "Work Offline" mode before compacting the
folder.

As you suggested, I copied all of the messages from the folder into a new
folder. The same problem occurs with the new folder.

However, I do not have a problem accessing the messages in the folder. I can
read all of the messages without a problem. The only problem I am having is
when compacting the folder. Will one of the programs you suggested allow the
folder to be compacted properly even though I have no trouble accessing it?

Thank you,
Dale

Does this happen for when compacting one specific folder, or compacting all?

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IEToolsInternet OptionsDelete
Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content.

Try again and also click on Outlook Express so no folders are open, as well
as working offline.

How large is the file?
(Right click the older and choose Properties | Local File.)
