I am running win XP and have started to back up the many folders that I
have, along with their files.

I'm want to backup several folders and put all the files on CD. The transfer
to CD is not a problem, but----

How do I copy a list of files, their size, type, and date modified and print
these to place in the jewel case with the CD for reference to their
contents.

Dear Frank and all of the Group.

These files that I am able to back up but not able to write or copy a list
of the files therein.
In one case the folder contains 55 Adobe files. The are rather long and
important catalogues that I wish to save and protect.
What I am trying to do is copy the list and print it. As I said I don't
think the system allows you to do this.
i.e. --- Start, My Documents, click on the folder and open it. I would like
to highlight the long list of files, their size, type, and date modified and
print these to place in the jewel case with the CD for reference to their
contents.

These files have nothing to do with Outlook or Outlook Express.

I'm sorry Frank, if I did not make my self clear in the first place.

Yours

There are two ways (without using any costly third-party tools) to print out
a list of files inside a folder.

1. Using the Command Prompt
- Drill down to the desired folder (or directory) using the CD or CHDIR
command
- Issue either one of the following commands
DIR/ON output.txt
DIR/OD output.txt
DIR/? (to find out what /ON and /OD mean)
- Back to Windows, use a text editor to open the text file and send it to
the printer.

2. Using Windows Explorer
- Change the view to "details" mode
- Sort it by filename, size or whatever you want.
- Press Alt-PrtSc to capture an image of the active window
- Paste it to Paint (under Accessories) or any other graphics-editing
program such as Irfanview (a freeware)
- Print it out using that program.
- Since you have 55 files, they may not all appear on one screen, so you may
have to combine 2 or more images before printing it out.

Hope this is helpful!
