I and my wife have had problems with emails disappearing before we have
finished writting them. These are not long, just a few words. Is this a
problem with OE or with Cox?

It's not Cox. Try two things separately. Compose while working offline. Then
go back online but compose with Check for messages every XX minutes
unchecked. If this works, change the time OE checks for messages by a couple
of minutes.

If still no joy, you may have a damaged identity especially if it is the
default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one
and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book
from the old identity and delete it.

Bruce has given some good advice.

Another precaution you can take. In Outlook Express select Tools,
Options, Send and uncheck the box before "Send messages immediately".
