Default OE not sending email

I hope someone on here can help with a problem I've got with OE. I've got 3
computers and 5 email accounts (1 primary, 4 secondary) with my ISP, and all
machines can (or should be able to) send to/receive from all email accounts.
However, one computer cannot send from one sub-account (but will receive).

I'm absolutely certain that I've entered all settings within OE correctly,
including username and password, and server settings. In fact, a friend came
round with his laptop, connected to my network and I've entered the details
onto his machine and I can confirm that it works on his laptop OK, just as
it does on my other two computers.

This leads me to conclude that it is a problem with that particular install
of OE on that particular machine, and not anything to do with ISP settings,
accounts or whatever.

So, my question is, can I do a reinstall/rebuild/repair of OE on it's own
(or even by reinstalling Internet Explorer (as I seem to remember that OE is
part of IE)) or is it necessary to reinstall Windows from scratch?

All machines running XP Pro SP2, IE6 (6.0.2900.2180 - don't like 7) and OE6
(6.00.2900.2180) and fully up-to-date via automatic updates.

Thanks,

John

Reinstalling seldom fixes anything. Wht happens when you try to send? Any
error message? Please post it in its entirety.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Right, to Bruce, Frank, Norman and PA Bear, thanks for attempting to help,
sorry for not providing the exact error message at the time. However, I've
now sorted it and it's a real "DOH!!!" moment for me, I'm afraid.

Both SMTP and POP3 servers are mail.btinternet.com and I had checked that,
along with username and password, at least half a dozen times. I can only
conclude that I was running on autopilot at the time because, in the SMTP
server field, I had typed 'mail.btinterent.com' instead of
mail.btinternet.com

Specifically to Norman, my preference of IE6 over IE7 is nothing to do with
liking insecurity, but merely cosmetic and superficial - I don't like the
look, the layout, nor the feel of IE7. However, as I use Firefox for about
98% of my browsing needs anyway, I can put up with the insecurity of IE6 for
the limited time I need it.

Once again, thanks for your help folks,

John

I have the exact same problem and I am in Venezuela. This seems a new problem
related to OE. I have to Service Providers. Neither account can send outgoing
messages. Other than that it navigates and receives messages.

The error messages include notes about
Protocole: SMTP, Port: 25, Security (SSL): Socket error: 10060, Error
number: 0x800CCC0E

Has anyone made any progress??

Some ISPs block access to other SMTP mail servers while connected via
them. (They block TCP/IP port 25 except to their own SMTP mail server.)
Some of these ISPs will make exceptions if you present a compelling
reason to do this. The error messages may indicate network is
unreachable, access denied, or timeout errors (socket errors 10051,
10061 and 10060.) Another workaround for this is to use the SMTP mail
server of the service that you connect via, but leave your other
settings the same. In some cases you can use Port 587 or 465 rather
than port 25 (specify in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Advanced). Your ISP is more likely to allow this port. The SMTP mail
server has to support this port. SMTP Authentication will likely be
required. In OE this is specified in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties,
Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires Authentication.
