Default Sent Items folder - messages have gone!

Hi

I have a problem with my Sent Items folder.

We had a power failure on Friday 2 May 2008 and ever since all messages in
my Sent Items folder are no longer appearing in OE. The folder has
completely emptied out. I have checked the store folder and can still see
the original Sent Items.dbx file there.

Now when I right click on Sent Items in my OE and view Properties, it says
the files are stored in the following file: Sent Items (2).dbx
This new Sent Items (2).dbx folder appears in my store folder and seems to
be saving all my sent messages.

I would like to view my original Sent Item's folder in OE and have all sent
messages stored in there like normal.

Thanks for your help.

Default Sent Items folder - messages have gone!

Sorry I am new to newsgroups. Will keep it in mind next time.

New sent messages are appearing in the Sent Items. I cannot see my old
sent messages in Sent Items, but the dbx file still exists in my store
folder and I can tell by the file size it has all my old sent messages
in there! How I can get these messages back in OE?

Please include all previous messages in your replies. It makes things much
easier for us to follow. Thank you.

You should not keep messages in the Inbox, or Sent Items as they as the most
likely to become corrupt. More about that at the end of this post.

In the OE folder tree, create a new folder named Temp and drag all the
messages in the current Sent Items folder to it.

*Close OE* and open the message store and drag the original Sent Items
folder to the Desktop at the top of the Windows Explorer folder tree. Delete
the other Sent Items files.

On the Desktop, rename the original Sent Items.dbx to Sent Itemsold.dbx.

Open OE and you should have a new Sent Items folder as well as the Temp
folder.

Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the
Desktop, (Sent Itemsold). Open the new folder and then close OE. (You must
do this). Go to Windows Explorer and locate the Message Store folder for
your OE identity, but don't open it. Click on the Desktop and drag the Sent
Itemsold file from the Desktop in the right hand pane to the OE store folder
in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes.

You should have your old sent messages in the new Sent Itemsold folder and
you can merge the messages in the Temp folder with them and delete the Temp
folder. ***Do not put the messages in the newly created Sent Items
folder***.

If that fails, you will need a recovery tool.

DBXpress: {much faster for large files}

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

Hi,

I don't know too much about your problem, but I have heard about a
tool, You may try Advanced Outlook Express Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aoer/
This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Outlook Express dbx
files.
