I have tried the two previously posted replies as to how to try and fix this
with no success. I have checked the registry item and there is no problem there. I have created a new Identity and even the new identity does not show Accounts. Could this be down to a bad SP3 update? Any help would be appreciated. |

Have you done the following?
No Accounts in Tools drop-down box: Go to StartRunType: regedit. Locate this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express On the right-hand side of the page, double click: *No modify accts* value. {If this value does not exist, on the Edit menu, click DWORD Value. Type: No modify accts, and press Enter to save the name}. Change the setting of this value from 1 to 0, click OK. That should put it back in the drop-down box. If you have any problems with those instructions, this is a direct registry modification download that will also put it back: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs...modifyundo.reg And: You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it. All I can suggest is to do the following and make sure that Accounts is visible when SP3 is removed. Remove SP3 via Add/Remove Programs, reboot and download and install it again. Before you do, turn off your anti-virus and any anti-spyware programs such as Windows Defender. As previously stated I had tried the first two option which did not work.
Thankfully the uninstall and reinstall of SP3 did work after stopping my anti-virus program while updating. Maybe there should be a notice telling people to disable these kind of services when updating as it would have saved a lot of trouble? Thank you for taking the time to respond and help me solve this problem. Brian "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Have you done the following? No Accounts in Tools drop-down box: Go to StartRunType: regedit. You're welcome. You did say you tried the first two options, but didn't cite
what those options were. MS always has release notes for new programs and service packs, but you have to search for them. (Such as what I included in my reply). Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3: http://support.microsoft.com:80/kb/950717 Note that when you install /any/ program or update on a computer, you should do so with your AV program off to insure a clean install. Perhaps MS thinks people should already know this? I can't answer. Glad it is working for you now though. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "suki750" wrote in message ...
