Default How to "Un-gray" options

How can I "ungray" these options?

In OE6
1.. ToolsOptionsGeneral tab.
2.. In the Default Messaging Programs area, click Make Default for
news or e-mail.

The options are gray because OE thinks that it is already the default.
Only if it thinks that it is not the default, do they become enabled.

Is OE not acting as the default mail/news program? If so, then see:

OLEXP: "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work with Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

Also, in Windows XP: Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Set Program
Access and Defaults, Email and select Outlook Express.

Do you have a Mail or News Client installed other than OE?

Set Program Access and Defaults | Choose a default e-mail program: Is any
application other than OE listed here (not including "Use my current email
program")?
