On one Outlook Express 6.0 client, one mail was received with a .pdf
attachment. When the user doubleclicks on this attachment, OE gives the error 'Unknown file type. Set up association...' etc. But when the file is saved and double clicked upon, AcroRd32 is called and the file opens. When any .pdf is doubleclicked via Explorer, it opens. Could there be an explanation? Mohan -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums....press/200805/1 |

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works and then check the box: Always use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open these attachments in the future. If you are using Adobe Reader, then that is the program you want to check. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "bnmohan via WindowsKB.com" u35859@uwe wrote in message news:843c21bc16592@uwe... Hi! Thanks.
But the problem was with the user: in the registry, I found the 'OpenWith' ( or ProgIds) keys for IE, Word, and AcrodRd32 ( Adobe reader) for the .pdf extension. He has been doing spmehing with File Associations that he should not have done. In Folder Options-FileTypes, I deleted the .PDF entry. But when I clicked on a .pdf file, it opened. I found the .PDF entry had come back. On opening the mail in question, and clicking on the .pdf attachment, the .pdf opened. Thanks again Mohan Bruce Hagen wrote: Save the attachment to your HDD. Thanks. Once or twice I have wished there were no users!
