Until I installed sp3 to my xp home, outlook express ran fine. Since the
installation of sp3, O.E. is unstable, e.g., my wife's emails from her web based server were transferred to O.E. with out us doing anything. There were issues with newsgroups we never encountered before also. We no longer use O.E. but were curious if others had the same problem? Thank you -- Grampy Pete |

...curious if others had the same problem?
No. ...e.g., my wife's emails from her web based server were transferred to O.E. with out us doing anything. Both of your email addresses (e.g., ; ) probably point to the same mailbox with your ISP. OE will download all new messages in your default Comcast mailbox. [I remember that you're a Comcast subscriber.] Was one or more of your email addresses configured and running in OE before you installed SP3? There were issues with newsgroups we never encountered before also. Such as...? What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running when you installed SP3? hope this reply makes sense -we each have seperate mail accounts with
Comcast's web based server. It is possible that I had configured one O/E. acc't but do not remember in the midst of all the confusion. I am running Comcast's free Mcafee Secuity Center and the only problem we had was with O/E. I have since uninstalled sp3 and used the disk to reinstall it. All is running well. If I could develope an interface with newsgroups, I would not have to keep coming back to check. I have to call Comcast because the last I heard they were not supporting newsgroups any longer. -- Grampy Pete "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: ...curious if others had the same problem? ...we each have seperate mail accounts with
Comcast's web based server. Your 2 email addresses are "aliases" for one mailbox so you'll still need to use Message Rules to avoid messages to both accounts downloading into OE. Background: Most families (an intentionally all-encompassing term) will have one Mail Account with their one ISP subscription ($$/month for all). Most ISPs provide you with multiple Addresses for the Mail Account (e.g., ; ; etc.) but all of them "point" to the one mailbox. As such, each Identity will need to use Message Rules so that only mail addressed to them is downloaded into their Inbox. The following refers to two addresses, but you should be able to follow it and amend for three or more if necessary. and are aliases for one Mail Account (mailbox). In the Identity associated with , create a Message Rule stating, "Where To or CC contains , Do not download it from the server" and place this rule at the very top of the list. Then create a similar rule for the Identity associated with directing any messages addressed to not to be downloaded from the server. Also see MVP Tom Koch's fine pages on using Rules: Message Rules Tips http://www.insideoe.com/tips/rules.htm Why doesn't my rule work? http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#rules I am running Comcast's free Mcafee Secuity Center and the only problem we had was with O/E. Assuming McAfee Security Center was running when you installed SP3, that may well have caused any problems, Grampy. See: WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron...tallation.aspx Steps to take before you install WinXP SP3 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717 If you make certain that all components of McAfee Security Center are disabled before reinstalling SP3, all should be well. If I could develope an interface with newsgroups, I would not have to keep coming back to check. I have to call Comcast because the last I heard they were not supporting newsgroups any longer.
