It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and opt out of e-mail scanning when the option arises. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "grahamite" wrote in message ... I have a new computer with XP. About 3 weeks ago, Outlook Express started not allowing me to forward mail with attachments. I get the following error message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Fw: Bush's "resignation" speech', Account: 'Home', Server: 'mail.tgncable.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 See http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F My contact person at my ISP has no clue. I don't have many, but think it is probably something in the OE on this computer, as I can forward messages with attachments from my lap top. Will appreciate any help. I have made OE the default mail handler - to no avail. I turned off the e-mail scanning before posting. It seems to be selective about the attachments it won't forward. Week before last, I had a message that had several "Maxine" cartoons attached and it wouldn't forward it. I am at my wit's end. Don't feel qualified to remove IE (if that's what it takes to remove OE) and reinstall it. _________________ Reinstalling won't fix a thing. Check your account settings with those of your laptop. Account: Home doesn't look right and I believe it's a server sided issue. If the settings are correct, do an experiment. Do you have an attachment you can't forward right now? Save it to your HDD and then attach it to a new message and send it to yourself. Does it go? If it does not go, can you copy the saved attachment to your laptop with a flash or CD? If you can, see if it goes from there. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA |
