If anyone knows, plese tell me what the above Error Number means. Also, what
about the "free" software which will purportedly clean up your registry and fix whatever is wrong with OE? |

I wouldn't trust any software (free or otherwise) that promises to fix
whatever is wrong with any program. No software is that smart, and could well make things worse. 0x800CCC0F = Connection closed. The full text of the error message would be helpful. That includes the server name, server type, port number, socket error code, SSL, etc. For best results, copy/paste the error message rather than retyping it. You should be able to highlight the message text in the error window (hold down the left mouse button while dragging the mouse over the text). Then press Ctrl-C (hold down the Ctrl key while pressing the C key) to copy the highlighted text to the Windows clipboard. You can then paste that text into the problem description using the Ctrl-V key combination. Also, was this an account that was working and suddenly stopped, or a new one you were setting up? Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too. -- Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM Do not reply with email |
