... Outlook express AND my Oulook 2003, 2 diiferent email addresses, will suddenly both stop working and both have the 0x800CC0F errror message. Then the next day they both work again? Phoned ISP and pinged my mail accounts. Turned firewall on and off. Turned Avast home edition on and off. Deleted Outlook Express account and added it back. Read about reinstalling Express, but it is happening in Outlook too? Might be 'inactivity', but after rebooting pc it does not work? If it's a 'corrupt' email message, how can it stops both Express and Outlook? Seems to work after pc is off for many hours? Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular resident protection. Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too. -- Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM Do not reply with email |

Frank and Bruce,
When I got back from a day out it was working again. I just went to server time outs and changed it from 1 min to 10 mins, because I think it might be an 'incativity problem. I am goint to try to leave Express and outlook off when I leave the pc on a long time? Can't it ping every 5 minutes, so it looks active?
