Hi,
My preference is to use the threaded view in OE6. It might be a wrong setting on user's side, or simply because I have not yet fully understood the principle of "synchronising." My default setting is "do not synchronise." Once a thread does not get any new posts after awhile ( = all read), it auto-disappears from the list! However, it always works to reset all and redownload new headers. Unfortunately, this happens with almost any usenet group and it is about to get fairly annoying. Note: the view is set to "Show all news", so this is not the culprit. I mainly do "auto-synchronising", i. e. I simply click on the name of the group and the headers are auto-downloaded. Did anyone notice this behavior too? -Andreas |

Windows version?
My default setting is "do not synchronise." Select "headers only" and see if the behavior persists. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Andreas Eibach wrote: My preference is to use the threaded view in OE6. What do you have for View, Current View for the newsgroup? Are you
hiding read messages? Also look at Tools, Options, Maintenance. Have you told OE to delete news posts after a given number of days? -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Andreas Eibach" wrote in message ... Have you told OE to delete news posts after a given number of days? ARGH, YES! I activated this to save disk space, but I was about sure it will delete the posting _contents_ but keep the headers!! But it won't. However, it is not clear what it does - it just writes "Delete news posts". This could as well mean the contents only. Thank you very much! -Andreas |

If the headers have gone missing, they must have been deleted from the newsserver in question. |

If the headers have gone missing, they must have been deleted from the newsserver in question. No they mustn't. (Maybe a malfunction) Since I can still re-retrieve them with a full reset. (Properties - Local File -Reset) I will simply change the "delete news posts" setting to ~1 month - this should suffice to comply with the "usenet discussion life cycle" ![]() -Andreas |

Some newsservers (e.g., the one you used to post your message) have a very short retention policy (e.g., 24 hours or less). Messages on the free public MS newssever (news://msnews.microsoft.com) are retained for a minimum of 90 days by default. OE can only display messages on the server. If they've been removed from the server, they WILL be removed in OE the next time OE syncs with the server. If Resetting the newsgroup doesn't give you the messages, they've been deleted from the server. Repost: OE Tools | Options | Maintenance | Delete news messages... will ONLY remove downloaded message bodies, not the headers. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ |
