Default Why does OE refuse to put "" in front of quoted text for some messages?

I've noticed this when replying to some messages in newsgroups. Every now
and again when replying to a newsgroup message the "" does not appear in
front of the quoted text of the message being replied to. Would I be right
in assuming the messages being replied to were posted in html or odd text
format? It's rather annoying when one has to manually put all the ""s in
front of quoted text so as not to confuses the reader.

Any suggestions?
cheers
Bill

If the OP was using Quoted Printable, you won't see the indent when you
reply.

Yup. The only thing which I do not understand is why has MS still not
bothered to tackle the issue? This must have been lurking since OE3 (or even
earlier) already.
I'd be fairly sure that MS employees do lurk around here too.

Get a better news client? Seriously, this is one of several
annoyances which appears to be unique to MSOE. See Bruce Hagen's
reply for the explanation of, "why". I am not sure if you can
override MSOE's propensity to "respond in kind", keying on the
sender's choice of encoding. Or if OEQuotefix will fix this problem:

What a champion! Yes - OEQuotefix does fix the problem. Nice to know it
wasn't just me doing something wrong.
Thanks Norman.

[Why the dupe?]

All OE (and Windows Mail) development ceased in June 2006, Andreas.

OE will be supported as long as the Windows version in which it's running is
supported (e.g., WinXP SP3 will be supported until 2014). This means that
security-related updates for OE will be available but not improvements or
new functionality will be introduced.

OE was replaced as default Mail Client in Vista with an application called
Windows Mail. (See my previous reply. All further development for Windows
Mail was halted while Vista was still in beta. Go figure.)

OL has never "done" newsgroups but it can use OE (and probably Windows Mail)
as it's newsreader.
