This problem has been going on several months so I don't know what might have
triggered it. I use OE 6.00.29 to send and receive a number of accounts. Each has been set up with the proper email address and reply address for the alias. The email addresses cover different servers. However, no matter which account I specify as the "From" account, it always defaults to another account (always the same default account). Note that the reply (originating) account that it defaults to is NOT the default account. Thus I send a message from Jrsdad1234.domain.net and when the recipient replies it goes to Info1234.domain.net, another one of my accounts. When I delete the Info1234 account, the source and reply email address shifts to another account. I first noticed this when I saw that people from my private emails were responding to my business emails. This has cause confusion and consternation. I have ported, through Files & Settings wizard, these accounts several times over the years. How can I make it so when I send an email, the recipient gets it as coming from the account I tried to send it from? I should note that the body of the email shows it as coming from the account I sent it from, but when they reply it goes to the odd default account. I have deleted the spurious default account only to have another of my addresses become the hidden default reply address (again noting that this is not related to which account is listed under tools/accounts as default). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but we'll go through how OE
works. Look in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General. The Email address there is what goes in the FROM header, the Reply address, if any goes, in the Reply to header. When someone replies to a message from you, it will use the Reply to header if present otherwise it will use the From header. Look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3) for messages in your Sent Items folder to see if the messages that you sent have the correct From and Reply to headers. Outlook Express always uses the same account for replies and forwards that DOWNLOADED the message (which is not necessarily the account that matches the e-mail address the message was sent to). The default account is used for new messages. If the multiple accounts are aliases for the same server POP3 account (They have the same settings at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers for both Incoming POP3 server AND Incoming Account Name), then any one of the accounts might download messages for any of the addresses. To see which account downloaded a message, select the Inbox folder, then View, Columns and add the ACCOUNT column. If this is the case, and you would like the Default account to be used for All replies, then there is an easy fix for this. At Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties General, Uncheck the Include this account for All accounts Except the Default one. Then the default account will download all the mail and will therefore be used for replies. If the accounts are not aliases, then you do need to have the Include this account checked for the non-alias accounts and will have to use the FROM drop down box when composing to set the desired account for that message. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "JRsDad" wrote in message ... Is this sudden, new behavior or an ongoing problem?
Are all of the addresses (email accounts) aliases for the same mailbox? Most families (an intentionally all-encompassing term) will have one Mail Account with their one ISP subscription ($$/month for all). Most ISPs provide you with multiple Addresses for the Mail Account (e.g., , , etc.) but all of them "point" to the one mailbox. Tools | Accounts | Mail | [account(s)] | Properties | Reply address: Is anything entered here? If so, it it the same as what's entered in 'Email address' above? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ JRsDad wrote: This problem has been going on several months so I don't know what might have triggered it.
