Hi map,
Change it in Outlook Express, also to match the password you changed it to. We are talking about Windows Live Mail? -- thecreator "map" wrote in message ... i changed my windows live id password and now outlook express won't recognize my password. |

You change the login password for your Windows Live ID account (which is the same one for the Windows Live Hotmail service). Okay. So did you yet update the e-mail account defined in Outlook Express to use the same login password that you changed to up on the server? Did you ever update the account defined in Outlook Express to use the new password? |

That would check that what you thought you specified as your new password really is your new password. Then change the password in the account defined in Outlook Express to match your new password. So are you using an HTTP or POP account in Outlook Express for your Windows Live Hotmail account? Is it a free or paid Windows Live Hotmail account? If free, Outlook Express doesn't support Deltasync protocol which is what Microsoft is moving to and away from WebDAV (the old protocol that OE does understand). That means you either pay Microsoft for a Windows Live Hotmail PLUS account to get POP access to it to use Outlook Express or you move to using Windows Live Mail as your e-mail program which does support Deltasync. |

my new windows live password works. this same thing happened about a year
ago. it was a nightmare getting to support but finally i got walked thru. of course i can't find the limited notes i took at the time. yes it is a pop3.live.com account. i far as i know it is not a hotmail account it is the legacy outlook express account I've had since win95. I am paid subscriber to live however. "VanguardLH" wrote: map wrote: i changed my windows live id password and now outlook express won't recognize my password. I am paid subscriber to live however. Your reply is confusing. You keep mixing the wrong terms. "My new Windows Live password works." Works where? When using the webmail interface? In some e-mail client other than Outlook Express? "It is a pop3.live.com account". That's the IP name of a mail host. Using it means you have a paid Windows Live Hotmail account, also substantiated by "I am a paid subscriber". However, Windows Live Hotmail Plus accounts had to use WebDAV access (i.e., define an HTTP account in OE) until November 2007 whereupon Microsoft re-added POP access. You say that you've had this Windows Live Hotmail account for a year which means you would not have had POP access back them. Maybe what you had a year ago was an MSN Hotmail (Classic) account, not a Windows Live Hotmail account. POP access was added to Windows Live Hotmail back in November 2007. For POP access before that, you would've had to have a paid MSN Hotmail account or a really old legacy Hotmail account for which you got POP access grandfathered in. POP access was added to Windows Live Hotmail PLUS, not to MSN Hotmail Premium. "Legacy Outlook Express account". No such thing. There is, however, legacy MSN accounts. Outlook Express is an e-mail client, not an account. So do you have a legacy Hotmail *account*, an MSN Hotmail Premium (paid) *account*, or a Windows Live Hotmail PLUS (paid) account? Were you connecting to pop3.live.com when using your old password? Or did you change both your password and the POP mail host? |

wow. now i feel even dumber. sorry for the confusion. my windows live
password works to get into windows live. so i am using the right password. i have a legacy msn account. all i did was change the windows live password. next time i started outlook express it wouldn't accept my password. as i remember about a year and a half ago or so i was notified that my pop3 acct was going to pop3.live. changed some settings and everything worked. at the beginning of this year i lost my hard drive. when i got back up and running i was stuck in this same password loop. that's when i was walked thru and got outlook express running again. then everything was fine until i changed my password. i do appreciate your help "VanguardLH" wrote: map wrote: "VanguardLH" wrote: map wrote: i changed my windows live id password and now outlook express won't recognize my password. I am paid subscriber to live however.
You have a valid Windows Live Hotmail Plus subscription? If so, is your new LiveID password also associate with the subscription? Does the new password work when you access the account via webmail (i.e., http://hotmail.com ...which will resolve to another address)? i never subscribed to hot mail. i am going to say that i have a legacy
msn.com email account that i always accessed thru outlook express. a while ago it changed to a pop3.live.com account. i can log into windows live with my new password. however ever since i changed the windows live id password i haven't been able to get my password accepted thru outlook express. i have deleted the protected system storage key to no avail. if my memory serves me correctly there is another registry key that needs to be dealt with. this is where i was hoping for help.
