Default Search Function has changed

Windows 98SE (yes, I know it's old)
Internet Explorer 6

The "next" button next to Search is grayed out. When I try to customize I
have two lists to choose from, one in "Find a Web Page" and also another
list for
"Choose a search provider for address bar searches". There are no other
categories. Am I losing my mind? Shouldn't there be more categories?

When I change to another search engine it will use that search engine but
the "next" button is still grayed out and I cannot use it to do a search
with another engine. When I first try and search, I get a message "loading
search settings" before it finally does the search.

I've run AdAware and got rid of a few things but nothing that seemed
particularly alarming. Ran virus scanner and it come up clean.

I downloaded and installed .Net Framework a few days ago. I don't know if
that had anything to do with it or not. I also had software program that
became corrupt and I reinstalled it. Again I don't know if that's
coincidence or not.

I've tried repairing Internet Explorer and also Reset Web Setting - no joy.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me.
