Very hard to guess when the newsserver in question is a mystery

Maybe the group is in Read Only or ask someone in that particular newsserver for instructions

In Tools, Accounts, News, ADD the xxx.com news server. Fill in the
information as prompted. When done, in Tools, Accounts, News
Properties, General make sure that the e-mail address is filled in.
Depending on the news server it may not need to be your real e-mail
address but it may need to be in the form of a valid e-mail address.

There could be other requirements to post to the news server such as
having a paid account with a sign-on and password.

That usually indicates that the news server wants an email address in proper
RFC 2821 format: . If you were to put in that
exact email address (without the angle brackets), your server might accept
it.

As Michael says, some news servers *require* a working email address. If
that is the case, sign up for something like "Spamgourmet", or "Sneakemail",
and get a disposable email address.

Spamgourmet: http://www.spamgourmet.com/
Sneakemail: http://www.sneakemail.com/
