Tools | Options | Compose | Mail Format Settings. Check Regular rather than
Bold.

Is Regular checked now in Tools | Options............? Does it stay
unchecked? If it is unchecked and you still see bold, then create a new
identity.

You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main
Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it.
If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

Hi Bruce,

That was the default selection, and the result doesn't change if de- and
reselecting that option. Still only bold display. Went a step further and
tried other format options, and they had no impact on either viewing or
composing.

But, that does give me some ideas...

Thanks,

Neil

That should be: Is Regular checked now and does it stay checked, or revert
to Bold?

If you are using stationery, some default to a specific font and size.

Tools | Options | Compose. Make sure nothing is checked or selected in the
Stationery section, including Blank.

In IE: Tools | Internet Options | Accessibility. Uncheck: "Ignore font sizes
specified on web pages".

Thanks again, but that created a different font-related problem. Although
I
can _select_ fonts and attributes, the fonts don't change at all in the
new
identity, defaulting to a font that isn't selected!

I don't know how to access the font values, or even if you can. That should
not be an issue though as a new identity would have given you a new registry
entry with all the default settings.

May I ask what your Windows version is? OE version?

Do you know whether values for font selections are set on the registry or
in
a separate file in IE6? If in the registry, any pointers to what the
settings might be?

Thanks,

I could be wrong, but it appears from your headers that you are missing some
critical patches. Visit Windows Updates and see what's there.
