![]() Hi Everyone, When I post a question on the Windows news groups forum , I always select "notify me of replies" . And for the last month or so , when I receive a message in Outlook Express 6 saying that someone has replied to my question , and then I click on the link ( the "Read and rate the Response" link ) , it takes me to a blank web-page instead of the page containing my question and the reply. This problem only began about 6-weeks ago , and only happens with the "Read and rate the Response" link from e-mail notifications from the Windows newsgroups . All other links in Outlook Express work fine. Any ideas on what started this problem ? Thanks. -- your friend, Larry |

I would assume that is an issue with the clunky Web interface sending you a
bad link if all others in e-mails work. If you want, copy and paste the link in this thread. If we get a blank page, then it is not Outlook Express at fault. Note that most of us use a newsreader such as Outlook Express and not the Web. It is known for its unreliability. You can use the link you get to figure out which thread it is referring to. Here's my answer to the same question from someone who provided better detail last month: http://www.microsoft.com/communities...cea&sloc=en-us quote Hint: delete the first broken URL and its &url= parameter prefix. Then convert all the escaped hex characters to their proper ASCII characters (use CharMap for help with that if necessary). /quote Thanks. -- your friend, Larry Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

It's a bad link you are being sent. Either live with it until / if it is
fixed, or use OE as your newsreader. You don't get e-mail notification, but there are other options. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "leoliver" wrote in message ... ![]() "leoliver" wrote in message ... Bruce, Here's the URL the link took me to : http://www.microsoft.com:80/wn3/aspx...e-b36c7ba35c0e Did you try the conversion technique I mentioned to you? Take the url= value: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...e-b36c7ba35c0e and change all the escaped hex to the equivalent ASCII characters http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...e-b36c7ba35c0e Ok. It looks as if you might have clipped that URL= value. Did more of it wrap to another line in your E-mail? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...c0e&sloc=en-us That was a guess of what it was. So it looks as if for some reason you are missing just the &sloc=en-us value. Going backwards, e.g. encoding the ampersand as %26 and the equal sign as %3d it would seem the original URL should have been http://www.microsoft.com:80/wn3/aspx...26sloc%3den-us Does that work?... View Source shows that it returns just a DOCTYPE which is probably the same bug from the web site that you are seeing. So, my guess is that you clipped the %26sloc%3den-us from your example and with it the conversion would work fine (since it is equivalent to a URL that CopyURL, e.g., Alt-L,Enter with that message open, shows). The link I recieved for this notification was "read the response " instead of
"read and rate the response" . The "read the response " link took me to the correct web page on this newsgroup . The "read the response " link's url is : " http://www.microsoft.com:80/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.inetexplor er.ie6_outlookexpress&mid=1a5d8791-8e86-4bd0-ba4a-21efa7c74001" Which worked . I'll continue to monitor this and use the links. Although in addition to using the links ,the best I can , I may also set up a news group in Outlook Express also. your friend, Larry "Bruce Hagen" wrote: It's a bad link you are being sent.
