hi,
up til about a week ago I was able to post ok to newsgroups using OE6 and newsroups.comcast.net. Now my attempts at posting to any of the NGs via Comcast.net do not show up in the NGs. I see them In OE Sent Items oK and I don't get any error messages but not on the NG itself. Experimenting I found that my posts DO get through on the news.microsoft.com server as this post is. I've checked the settings in OE Tools/Accts/ news and all appear OK. Logically, since my posts are OK in Microsoft's news server, but not in Comcast's news server, it seems it should follow that my computer is OK as is my typing finger and my OE and the culprit would seem to be the Comcast server. I Just spent a fabulous half hour with Comcast support and got nowhere. They have referred it up to their advanced department and gave me a reference number. In the hope that im might ring a bell with someone on this NG I thought I'd give it a try. Using Windows XP, News NNTP 119. One possible (?) clue: In OE Tools/ Accounts/ News, where in the "connection" column for the MS server(which works) it says "Local Area Network" and in the connection column for Comcast it says "any available". Thanks for any help. I'm subscribed to thirty NG's visa Comcast and I'm able to access them OK and they are current. Just can't post in them Fred |

Newsgroup posts are archived for a minimum of 90 days on the MS newsserver.
I'd assume newsgroups carried on Comcast's newsserver have a much shorter archival period (e.g., 24 hours). If your posts show up using the MS newsserver but not the Comcast newsserver, chances are they've been deleted on the latter already. bayskater wrote: hi, up til about a week ago I was able to post ok to newsgroups using OE6 and newsroups.comcast.net. Thanks PAB,
the posts never appear. Right after I try To post I try to Refresh, but it doesn't show and never arrives. Fred "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote in message ... Are you referring to posts that never appear on the Comcast newsserver or
the MS newsserver? (You must mean the former, else you wouldn't be replying to this thread.) Are you sending the posts using Comcast's newsserver? What newsgroups are invovled here? bayskater wrote: Thanks PAB, the posts never appear. Right after I try To post I try to Refresh, but it doesn't show and never arrives. That the message moved to the Sent Items folder means that OE got
confirmation that the news server initially accepted the message. Several things could cause the message to not be visible to you. 1) View, Current View settings for the newsgroup is not showing all messages. Although if this were the issue, you'd likely miss a lot more than just your posts. 2) Tools, Message Rules, Blocked Sender List, News you are blocking yourself 3) After initially accepting your message, a later filter at the news server rejected it. You'll get no notification of this. You'd have to check with your ISP for their filtering rules. 4) Larger ISPs have multiple news servers under the same name. They are supposed to stay in-synch with each other but some times get out-of-synch. Each time you connect to the news server you might get a different physical server and so might miss your posts, among others. 5) Your OE data store is corrupted. Try Tools, Options, Maintenance, Clean up Now and RESET the problem newsgroup or news server. This might also help with problem # 4. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "bayskater" wrote in message ... hi, up til about a week ago I was able to post ok to newsgroups using OE6 and newsroups.comcast.net. Thanks, Michael,
(1) I checked and "show all msgs" was not checked. I checked it and retried and no help. (2) I had already checked "Blocked Senders" in case during a senior moment I had killfiled myself, but no, I hadn't. (3) I had already spent some serious time with Comcast Support to no avail. The person didn't seem too familiar with newsgroup issues and seemed to be reading from some reference work that she wasn't familiar with. she referred my problem to someone smarter and gave me a reference number. I'm supposed to hear back some time and if not I'll simply refer to the refernce number to see how they're making out with it. (4) This sounds good , but remember ..I can *always* post successfully on Ngs on the Microsoft news server, and I can *never* post successully on Comcast news servers. (5) I'm a greenhorn on a lot of computer stuff and have never tried the Clean up now and reset that you suggest. I'm a bit chicken on this maneuver, worried that "clean up" may clean up more than I want cleaned up. If I do click on "Clean up now" does that open something up that enables me to select what NG or server I want to RESET? It reminds me of the old saying "when you find yourself in a hole STOP DIGGING." Thanks very much for your help and advice. Fred "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... I did a Google search on this subject:

THANKS, Bruce,
That did it !! In newsgroup properties, it asks for an e-mail address and I had Munged it to avoid Spam. (foo@invalid. invalid) When I changed it to my real email address I can post every time. I don't know why this became a problem as I've had that setting for many months with no posting problems. Good find. A Miller Lite will be consumed in your honor. You're welcome & thanks for the feedback. If you noticed, the poster said:
"Comcast support does not know exactly what is required for newsgroup login". Not surprising. From posts I have seen here regarding other Comcast issues, I doubt if their level 1 Techs can even spell "computer" let alone solve an issue like yours. I also wonder if the actually have level 2 Techs like most ISPs. Some of their Techs don't even know they now block SMTP port 25 and port 587 must be used for e-mail. BTW. I was consuming a Miller Lite when I did the search. g -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "bayskater" wrote in message ... THANKS, Bruce, That did it !!
