My wife's PC, using Outlook Express 6, somehow wound up with a setting for
French, in spell checking. When I hit the radio button (drop-down variety), nothing else shows up. How can I get it back to US-EN. TIA, Hagen Sahm |

Office 2007 is the culprit.
You no longer have spell checking capabilities in some languages in Outlook Express 6.0 after you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932974 Outlook Express cannot use the MS Word spell check in Office 2007. Downloading a free spell check is the simplest way around this. Vampirefo: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952 TinySpell: http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/ (Checks the spelling as you type). Australian English Spell Check (Also suitable for other English speaking countries.) http://www.justlocal.com.au/clients/oespellcheck/ If you have a previous version of Office, see this: http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2006/20061228.htm -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Hagar" wrote in message ... ![]() Found this solution too! ================================================== ========================== How to fix the Outlook Express spelling checker when the French Dictionary is the only dictionary Found this and it works great! ........ install just the proofing tools from your previous version of Office (using the custom install option). You can get them from any older Office suite or application - including FrontPage, Publisher or standalone versions of Word, Excel, or Outlook. To install just the proofing tools from Office 2003, run Office setup and choose the custom option. Uncheck all programs in the list and add a check to choose the options at the bottom of the programs list. No the nest screen, set each top level item to be Not Available (red X icon). Expand the Office Shared Features branch and locate Proofing tools in the list. Expand proofing tools and choose English, setting it to Run from my computer. Finish the installation. Once installed, restart OE - go to Tools, Options and verify Spelling is configured to use the correct English dictionary. http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archi...ictionary.aspx ================================================== ============================== Regards, Touch Base "Hagar" wrote in message ...
