Default Outlook Express 6 Hangs on Startup

Hi, I have Outlook Express 6 on my PC. Over the last few days when I attempt
to start up this application it hangs on the startup window. I have read on
the internet that this may be caused by an excess of e-mails in my Inbox.
Obviously, I cannot delete or compress any e-mails from within the
application as it doesn't startup. Is there any way I can delete the e-mails
from outside of the application or does anyone know if there would be any
reason for the application to hang if the number of e-mails is not the
problem? Thanks
