Yesterday I noticed that my posts to newsgroups weren't appearing.
I'm using OE6.00.29005512 I am able to read other people's current posts, but while my own appear to send appropriately, they aren't appearing. I've tried a couple of different servers, and have even tried using their "test" groups, so apparently the problem isn't with either of them. My email is coming and going without any apparent problem. |

Apparently my ISP found whatever the problem is/was, because it's working
now... funny how that happens! "Marsha L" wrote in message ... Yesterday I noticed that my posts to newsgroups weren't appearing. E.g. include at least Message-ID and server information. Also, be aware that there are known problems with posts originating from the MS Communities web interface not being propagated to USENET. So, what you can see happening there is not getting an opening post and only becoming aware of it after seeing responses to that post (from other web interface users), etc. --- "Marsha L" wrote in message ... Robert,
There wouldn't have been a Message-ID for a message which never appeared! Yesterday I made a response to a rec. group utilizing news.west.cox.net. When it hadn't appeared in a "reasonable" amount of time, I made a similar one using Google Groups. That one showed up, the initial one never did. I shut down for the night This morning I made a test post to cox.internet.general.test which didn't show up. Then one to motzarella.test using their server. Neither showed up. I wrote to Cox and got a form response which obviously hadn't been reviewed by a live person. The note you saw, and responded to here, was posted using Google Groups. My second note utilized Cox, and this one Motzarella. So I have no idea what the problem was, or what corrected it since I didn't do anything different in either instance. 1. Setting up Outlook Express to access Microsoft newsgroups using the free
MS newsserver (vs Google Groups or your ISP's newsserver) http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm 2. Tools | Options | Read | Get XXX headers at a time The default is 300. You may set this option as high as 1,000. Right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane | Synchronization Settings | select New Messages Only. Now every time you open the newsgroup (or hit F5), you will download the next-newest set of headers/messages.. When you feel you've downloaded enough headers/messages, again right-click on the newsgroup in Folders pane and select Catch Up Now. This will Mark as Read all messages on the server, including ones you've not yet downloaded. Now return to "Get XXX headers at a time" and uncheck the option completely; then compact the folder. From now on, OE will only download headers/messages posted to the server since you last checked (polled) for messages. You should probably visit this page, too: http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#cleannews (lotsa good stuff there). -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Marsha L wrote: Yesterday I noticed that my posts to newsgroups weren't appearing. ... Robert, There wouldn't have been a Message-ID for a message which never appeared! Oh yes there would! ; ) Use Alt-Enter,Details and check for a References: header. The first Message-ID in that header is likely to be the Message-ID of the opening post. The last Message-ID in that header is almost certainly going to be the Message-ID of the post that the message you are reading is a direct reply to. In the case of messages composed by OE users an even simpler clue to use is the news: link which is often generated. If that message exists on the server you are using as your default news server clicking on it should download that message. If the posts that you are missing are just normal NNTP missing posts isn't that unusual depending on where they are coming from. E.g. check the Path: header to see where it originated. Getting posts propagated through USENET can be a bit of shooting gallery. ; ) HTH Robert --- Yesterday I made a response to a rec. group utilizing news.west.cox.net. I was really getting the feeling that there was a lack of communication! I sent test posts which never appeared. Not on Cox, Motzarella or Google Groups. I think that it would be safe to say they never appeared anywhere. I made similar posts using Cox and Motzarella, none of which appeared in any of those places and that led me to believe that the issue was on my end. I double checked my OE settings to make sure nothing had changed them, and they were the same as they had been. As mysteriously as it began, it resolved itself. TIP: Access this and other MS newsgroups via the free MS newsserver (no
subscriptions; no passwords) instead of your ISP's newsserver. Posts appear within seconds and messages are archived for a minimum of 90 days.
