i just reinstalled after formatting my hard drive, got a welcome from
outlook and that's it, wont send or receive
message says activate "starttls" first,
how do i do this?

Did you back up OE? Did you set up your old account? Tools | Accounts | Mail
| Properties | All Tabs.

Please post the error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to
highlight and then right click to copy and then paste it into this thread.

Well, you posted here using OE so something must be working. Have you
configured your Sympatico email account in OE yet? It doesn't happen
automatically (unless your ISPs software does it). See

PS: Your headers (X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2869)
tell us that the machine's not fully patched at Windows Update. Do Method 1
and/or Method 2 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 then visit Windows
Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) again. And make sure Automatic
Updates is enabled.
