outlook express errors

When I try to read or send emails with outlook express I frequently get the message outlook express has encountered a problem and needs to close we opoligise for the inconvenience.Have had this problem for a long time and Microsoft keeps telling me to download this update or that update but I nave service pack 3 and all available updates as far as I know.if anyone can help would be very grateful. thank you
