i would love to configure oe to work perfectly, but i always seem to have an
issue with something in it I keep geeting that yellow checkmark telling me something is wrong or mail cannot be sent or delevered on a few of my e-mails,i get them perfectly within MSN9 and perfectly through e-prompter,but i like to have my mail and my newsgroups in the same spot, thats where OE comes in.Newsgroups configure fine, but e-mail,thats another turtle there,I put in what my ISP says is their code and i get the infamous yellow exclamation mark. with MSN, i have tried mail.msn.com,incoming.msn.com smtp.msn.com and nothing seems to work with verizon I KNOW its incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net yet when i enter it...........i get the error message. Now a real quagmire............ when i go to a ball game i normally e-mail a story of the game to freinds, everyone recieves it fine EXCEPT those at AOL does aol block msn? if i get past this configuration issue at OE and get my MSN mail on OE and as a default will OE sucessfully delever the msn mail to AOL ?(OE as mailserver but verizon w/msn9 as isp) thanx in advance |

MSN has not offered POP3/SMTP access to their mail servers in a long time. Unless you want to try out one of those POP-Proxy thingies (I never found one to be completely reliable), you will have to accept the fact that you will see MSN email in a separate folder tree than local folders. You configure MSOE to access MSN via HTTPMail. It should be an option within the account setup Wizard. If you installed MSN software, MSOE should find the correct HTTPMail server. I don't use MSN, so I just get the Hotmail server name: "http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp". I am not sure that it will work with an MSN account; I am pretty sure that there is a different server for MSN accounts. For your Verizon servers, you may need to configure MSOE to authenticate to the servers. Tools Accounts Propterties Mail, and select your account. On the Servers tab, Outgoing Mail Server section, try checking, "My server requires authentication". Now a real quagmire............ when i go to a ball game i normally e-mail a story of the game to freinds, everyone recieves it fine EXCEPT those at AOL does aol block msn? if i get past this configuration issue at OE and get my MSN mail on OE and as a default will OE sucessfully delever the msn mail to AOL ?(OE as mailserver but verizon w/msn9 as isp) MSOE will only deliver email to a mail server; from there it will be relayed on to the destination. MSN has spam issues, in that they are readily compromised by spammers, especially the Nigerian 4-1-9 spammers, who then propagate spam from the MSN mail system. Yes, AOL will block them over that. I run my own mail server, and I have seen about one connection attempt from MSN servers trying to deliver email to a non-existent email address for every successful connection from a friend who uses MSN Hotmail. Consider the number of customers that AOL has (in excess of 20 million), and the volume of undesirable email delivery attempts that represents. You may just have to rely on 'outgoing.verizon.net' to reach those people, instead of MSN. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

We need to know the full text of the error messages that you are
getting. Regarding sending to AOL, does this happen when you send a message to one AOL user or only when you send the same message to multiple people? Although AOL and other ISPs do occasionally block all mail from another ISP due to spamming issues, more often the individual message is caught by a spam filter due to something about that message. This could be due to a fake FROM address, the number of recipients or the message contents. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm ""Coffeehouse Schmuck"" wrote in message news:w6DSf.233$hC.132@trnddc08... i would love to configure oe to work perfectly, but i always seem to have an issue with something in it I keep geeting that yellow checkmark telling me something is wrong or mail cannot be sent or delevered on a few of my e-mails,i get them perfectly within MSN9 and perfectly through e-prompter,but i like to have my mail and my newsgroups in the same spot, thats where OE comes in.Newsgroups configure fine, but e-mail,thats another turtle there,I put in what my ISP says is their code and i get the infamous yellow exclamation mark. with MSN, i have tried mail.msn.com,incoming.msn.com smtp.msn.com and nothing seems to work with verizon I KNOW its incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net yet when i enter it...........i get the error message. Addendum to this post: http://tqmcube.com/hotmail.php You should study this, including two links on the page. Then you should complain to MSN staff about their network insecurity. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
