What happens when you try to send? Can you send to yourself? Any error
message? Double check your account settings. Setting Up Sky Mail In Outlook Express: http://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/sky...cleId=11272103 Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Michael Honnoraty" wrote in message ... Sorry - have done everything you suggested but it still doesn't work. When
we had our first sky router we had no problems at all!! "Bruce Hagen" wrote: What happens when you try to send? Can you send to yourself? Any error message? Double check your account settings. [Bruce is unavailable and has asked me to step in here, Michael.]
We need much more information if we're going to help you. Answer the following questions by number: 1. Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) and your IE version. 2. Please post the exact (verbatim) error message you're getting when you attempt to send an email. 3. Have you contacted your ISP (Sky) about this problem? 4. Is it a standalone router or a router/DSL modem combination unit? Are you really connecting via a wireless USB modem and not a router/DSL modem? 5. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? 6. Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Michael Honnoraty wrote: Sorry - have done everything you suggested but it still doesn't work. Hi
Thanks for your reply. 1. We use Windows XP home 2. The error message reads as follows: An unknown error has ocurred. Subject "Test". Account /pop.tools.sky.com'. Server 'smtp.tools.sky.com', Protocol: SMPT, Port 465, Secure (SSL): Yes. Error number 0x800CCC0B 3. Yes I have spoken to Sky two or three times. I have deleted the account and re-installed it as per instructions (Configure POP3/IMAP with Outlook Express and Outlook 2002 and older), and instructions from Sky. 4. It is a Sky wireless router supplied by SAGEM. Our previous Netgear was faulty, hence the need to replace it. We had no problems with Outlook Express with the old router!! 5/6. We use Norton 360 and the subscription is current. When the computer was purchased we bought an earlier version of Norton and upgraded to 360 about 18 months ago. I hope these comments are helpful - we are not the worlds greatest technicians!! Are you running WinXP SP2 or WinXP SP3? Are you running IE6 or IE7?
...Account /pop.tools.sky.com' I'll assume that forward-slash above was a typo. Assuming the account's properly configured, the most likely cause of the error is the email scanning component of N360. It provides no additional protection and even Symantec says it's not not necessary: QP Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /QP http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm So disable email scanning and see if the problem persists. More about Norton: Was a Norton or McAfee free-trial preinstalled on the machine when you bought it? What Norton application was installed before you upgraded to Norton 360 (N360) 18 months ago? When you renewed your N360 subscription 6 months ago, did you upgrade from, e.g., N360 2008 to N360 2009? -- ~PA Bear Michael Honnoraty wrote: 1. We use Windows XP home 2.
