Default opening browser links

Hello

I seem to be unable to opening browser links contained in e-mail messages.
I can only open the page by cutting & pasting into MSIE. Is there a setting
I can change in Outlook Express so that I can open internet pages from links
in e-mails please?

Brian

Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet
Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867

If still no joy, for IE6 & IE7:

Courtesy of MVP Frank Saunders. (RIP)

If nothing happens when you click a link:
Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet
Shortcut) and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to
iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

Thank You. I've fallen at the first hurdle unfortunately in that under
File Types I do not have an entry for [NONE] URL: HyperText Transfer
Protocol. My list jumps from [None] URL: File Transfer Protocol to [None]
URL: LDAP Protocol. I do however have an entry for [None].
Internet Shortcut (Not Even URL: Internet Protocol)

Do I need to create an entry?

Hmm. It's not proving as easy as I thought. My OS is WinXP SP3. I am
trying to add a new file type however I might be doing something wrong.

What should I type in the extension box?

If I type [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol it first tells me I cannot
have any spaces. If I re-type it with no spaces then that is registered. Do
I then "change" what the file opens with to IExplore or do I select
"advanced" and then work my way through to open.....iexplore.exe %1.

When I tried that after rebooting clicking on a link in an email did not
open Iexplore. Before moving onto your further suggestion I really need to
be satisfied that what I've done so far is correct.

Brian, do you have another browser installed (e.g., Firefox; AOL Browser;
Yahoo Browser)?

Are you running IE6 or IE7? =just a question, NOT a recommendation or
suggestion!!

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?
