Hello Group:
Windows XP Pro SP3 IE 6 After a windows reinstall, everything works fine except OE. I have the standard OE account, and added two mail accounts for hotmail. It works fine after setting up the new mail accounts until I reboot. Then OE won't open at all. No error message. The only way I have been able to (temporarily) correct it is to completely uninstall OE (I used the "outlook express removal tool" from James River software), then reinstall it, and add my two hotmail accounts. Again, it then works fine until I reboot, then it won't open at all. Does anyone have any clue about what may be going on here? Or how to fix the problem? Many thanks. Jack |

Create a new Identity. If it works, import your email from the old

Jack Hi PA Bear, Is that removal tool really bad? It seemed to be a reasonable way to uninstall -reinstall, allowing a clean start.(Although it does not remove the userid.wab file). I'd appreciate any more thoughts you have about it. After all, I did pay $5 for it! Jack |

I dunno what the tool "removes" or how you "reinstall" OE after using it, but none of it was necessary. [You can remove access to OE but you can't really "remove" or uninstall it.] OE problems are almost always related to either a damaged identity or a problematic setting. In you case, it was the latter: With a Hotmail account as the default, OE should not be configured to Send/Receive at start or open to the (default) Inbox. IOW, you blew $5. -- ~PA Bear |

wrote: Create a new Identity. If it works, import your email from the old Identity. Ron, Thanks. I'll try it when the system is up and running again. I had a coincidental hard drive failure (brand new Seagate 1T -- apparently not unusual for that model). So it will be a while before I can check that method. And, who knows, OE may work fine once I reinstall. Appreciate the input. Jack |
