Another question on the same lines. I understand that if you let your
mailboxes become too full your OE could become corrupt, sometimes after the
compacting procedure.

Could you lose one or more of your folders contents???

TIA

Yes, OE has a self-destruct feature that is enhanced by antivirus software
(see points 2 and 3 he www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#2) In addition,
backup frequently as your hard drive could also fail and then you would lose
your messages forever. Generally a dbx file should exceed a few hundred
megabytes, or else it gets more likely to be corrupted.

steve,
You missed a not.
Generally a dbx file should 'not' exceed a few hundred megabytes, or else it
gets more likely to be corrupted.

Each folder (includes subfolders) has its own dbx database file. There is a
theoretical size limit of 2 GB for each dbx file. The dbx file will become
corrupted before reaching that size.

Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by
Outlook Express:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:
