Hi,
Whilst using Windows '98 I became accustomed to the non-docking feature of the "Save Message As" feature whilst using "Outlook Express". I would like to set up my Windows 2000 Professional using Outlook Express 6.0 to do the same (non-docking). Is it Possible? Thanks. |

Can you elaborate about * non-docking*? I'm not familiar with the phrase.
And, what exactly you want to save. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "ZR6AJF" wrote in message ... When using Outlook Express and you have opened a mail, by hitting the 'Save
as' tab it opens a Popup window. It is this popup window that I wish to be "Non-Docking". "Docking" is when the popup window always goes to the top left hand of the screen. Windows '98 only docked on commencement of a sesion, once dragged to a new position it remained there, until 'Outlook Express' was shut down and restarted. Windows 2000 "Docks" all the time, and you have to keep on dragging it out the way to view the Headers of the mail. I date and time stamp all mail. OK. I am using XP/SP2 and the pop up window does open in the upper left
corner, but I can see it all. If I move it, it will open in the new place until I close and reopen OE. Are you having problems seeing a part of the box? The only things I can think of is to make sure you are fully patched at Windows Updates, and to create a new identity. You may have a damaged identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity and delete it. So far as I know, there's no way to affect where that windows opens. It
always opens in the upper left corenr of the message window, no matter where that windows is located unless doing that would run off the edge of the screen. Thanks a for the info so far, but the problem persists.
I am new to this so please bear with me, I am not sure if both of you will be getting this message so I will post it twice. Let me try and walk you through this again. When using 'Windows '98 and Outlook Express 5.5' A1. After opening up an e-mail and hitting the "Save as" tab, the "Save Message As" window opens up in the docked position (top left hand corner of the display). I see the full "Save Message As" Popup window which is over the message headers. A2. I then dragged it to the 'Mid Right-hand side' of the display, for convenience and proceed to save the message. A3. On Saving the next message the "Save Message As" window, remembers where I had dragged it to previously and opens up on the "Mid Right-hand Side" of the screen, for example. A4. Should I close Outlook Express and reopen it, it reverts back to the docked position. When using 'Windows 2000/SP4 and Outlook Express 6 (all with the latest updates, at present) B1. The process is duplicated as in A1 above. B2. The process is duplicated as in A2 above. B3. The "Save Message As", does not remember where I left it and it returns to the dock position (top left hand corner of the display). B4. I have not been able to test it in this application as it can not remember B3 above. Maybe there is a key, values or data that needs a tweak in the register, as I have also instructed the 'Folder Options' to "Remember each folder view settings". I will try the 'New Identity' as soon as possible. Stan. "Bruce Hagen" wrote: OK. I am using XP/SP2 and the pop up window does open in the upper left corner, but I can see it all. Mine reverts back to the upper left corner if I close and reopen OE the same
as you. This is the default behavior. Probably one of the many differences between OE5.5 and OE6. AFAIK, you'll have to live with it. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "ZR6AJF" wrote in message ... Thanks a for the info so far, but the problem persists. I would like to set up my Windows 2000 Professional using Outlook Express 6.0 to do the same (non-docking). Is it Possible? Try using Cascade Windows? E.g. either select a pair or more Taskbar icons using the Ctrl- key then right-click and select Cascade. To "cascade" just one window you can minimize all windows (e.g. press Win-M) then restore the one you want to apply the operation to and then right-click, Cascade Windows in the Task bar. BTW I like my OE windows to be always in the same place but over towards the right. AFAIK all I had to do to arrange that was just move one there and close it. If there had been more than one OE window open at the time I would have made sure that the one I moved was the last one closed. If that didn't seem to make it stick I would have (resorted to Voodoo and) held down a Ctrl- key while clicking the window's X Close box. Thanks. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

I am sure you have heard of the "New and Improved" well this must be "New and Degenerated". I suppose I could always turn the screen upside down. But I would still not be able to read the headers.
