The only way to do that is to make the laptop a "clone" of the Desktop
machine. For how to clone Outlook Express on two machines, see the info at this link: http://www.insideoe.com/backup/bu_full.htm And, any changes to the Desktop setup, such as adding/deleting local folders, or adding/deleting a newsgroup subscription will require a "Re-cloning" of the laptop. It's not too much work but it can become a PITA trying to keep two machines in sync. Do you really have to do this? Why not just copy the desired messages to a Transfer folder for this purpose? If you want to try that, see the info in the last paragraph at this link for details: http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 Please deliver feedback to the newsgroup, so that others can be helped. thanks Jim but I am only using the laptop I don't use A desktop machine as
well I have tried using a file to transfer the messages to but it doesn't work that well. I have to keep transferring messages back & forth constantly as I can be connected to the domain for 2hrs in the morning then go on site then back on the domain so I have to keep transferring messages both ways 3 or 4 times a day. What I need to do is be able to use the same identity when I am connected to the domain or standalone on site ,most of my messages are cad drawings or pictures which I need to be able to access all the time for working on & sending back to clients Tiny "Jim Pickering" wrote in message ... When in the office you connect through a domain and use one Identity.
On the site, you connect ???????? and use another Identity. So why aren't you using the same message store for both Identities? -- Ron Sommer "Tiny" wrote in message ... thanks Jim but I am only using the laptop I don't use A desktop machine as well I have tried using a file to transfer the messages to but it doesn't work that well. These directions are from another post.
-- Ron Sommer In your OE go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and write down where OE is storing its data. Close OE. Open Windows Explorer. * click Tools | Folder Options | View and set it to Show hidden files and folders. Go to your store folder and copy all of the DBX files to an empty Windows folder. Make sure you include Folders.dbx. Close Windows Explorer and start the other *Identity*. Go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder and write down the path to the data, Click Change IMPORTANT WARNING: For the next two steps decline any offer to move the files or folders or messages. Enter the other store folder path and click Okay. Close OE. Reopen it and answer 'No' to an offer to move things. Go back to the first OE and Choose File | Import | Messages and import from the other store directory. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup only. Well, cloning (same identity on two machines) is not that difficult. Did
you even read how to do it at the website I posted? There are only 4 keys involved that need to exported. If you're unwilling to do it, then I don't know of another way that would work. -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 "Tiny" wrote in message ... thanks Jim but I am only using the laptop I don't use A desktop machine as well I have tried using a file to transfer the messages to but it doesn't work that well. The only thing to remember is that any change to the primary account will
have to be copied/merged into the registry of the cloned machine to keep everything happy. Other than that, it works quite well. Good luck. Also, another trick that works for many is just to set both accounts to leave a copy of messages on the server (deleting them after 'xx' days so they don't accumulate) and then just download them to both machine on a regular basis. (Tools/Accounts - Mail tab, double click the desired account, look on the Advanced tab at the bottom of the page.) -- Jim Pickering, MVP, Outlook Express https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...8-1171988A62D6 "Tiny" wrote in message ...
