Hi,
in my overview of messages I see different messages with an attachment, but when I select them to see them in my preview pane the paperclip icon in the upper right corner of the message header is not there... -- Filip http://www.ww2airborne.net/ Official Site of the 101st Airborne - 463rd PFA skype: airborne463pfa-fiwi [It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!] ---------------------------------------------------------------- |

First check the message source of such a message. (Ctrl + F3) Do you see
encoding for the attachment? If not, there is none. Occasionally, e-mail scanning can cause the icon to show when there is no attachment. Disable e-mail scanning. If you do see encoding, see if the problem persists in a new identity. You may have a damaged identity especially if it is the default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book from the old identity and delete it. Note: Do not use the word Main in the name of the new identity. Is the sender of the problematic e-mails using Outlook? If so, are they sending in RTF (Rich-Text Format)? The only e-mail client that understands that document format is Outlook. Other e-mail clients don't know how to decipher the Microsoft-proprietary TNEF format used by Outlook when composing in RTF mode, and that includes Outlook Express. When sending in RTF mode, Outlook attaches a winmail.dat file that contains the formatting of the document (the body of the message contains just a plain-text version of the document). Tell the senders of those e-mails to stop using RTF mode. RTF should only be used when it can be guaranteed that the recipient is also using Outlook and only if both sender and recipient are within the same Exchange mail server organization. Tell the sender(s) to use plain-text or HTML format for their e-mails. When Outlook sends using RTF mode, the formatted version of the document is attached as a file (winmail.dat). The MIME part within the e-mail looks like: ------=_NextPart_partID Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="winmail.dat" long string of text characters ------=_NextPart_partID-- In a host where Outlook is not installed, perhaps the application type for Microsoft's proprietary TNEF format (ms-tnef) is defined. That is, no help application is defined to handle the TNEF encoding for the attached winmail.dat file. Even if Outlook or MS Office were installed, Outlook Express doesn't understand TNEF encoding so it can't do anything with the attached winmail.dat file to show its content. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241538 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290809 In OE, select the problematic e-mail and hit Ctrl+F3 to look at its raw source. See if there is a MIME part whose content type is ms-tnef. |

That's a valid attachment and should show in the message.
You need to select a Mail folder, then View, Layout, Preview Pane, Show Preview Pane Header in order to see the paper clip for attachments. If you select a News folder, then do the above, that applies to news messages instead. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm " Screaming Eagles 101" wrote in message ...
