Is there any way to get rid of the annoying pop-up that prompts me to
Compact.

I'd like to do that on my own volition.

We're sopposed to use the machine not the other way around.

But then again, using the tools at hand is a pretty smart thing to do
too. Going from automatic to manual isn't exactly progress.

Nevertheless that's what the experience of users of Outlook Express has
demonstrated over the years and it is not going to change. Microsoft
changed the way messages are stored in Windows Mail, most likely because
their tinkering with the compaction process had failed to produce a
totally satisfactory outcome.
