When I try to sync my Outlook Express Address book, I receive an error
message saying, "Some of your contacts were not synchronized because of errors communicating with the server. Try again to finish synchronizing your address book. (Error 800ccc34)." No matter how many times I try to synchronize, I get the same error message. Any ideas on how to fix? Thanks. |

Are you attempting to synchronize Address Book and Hotmail Contacts?

I think the answer to your question is Yes. I'm in Outlook express viewing
my address book that is stored locally on my computer. When I click on Tools, synchronize Now, I then get the error message. I've been using this feature for years without any problems, so that I can synchronize my contact list on my hotmail account. Any ideas? Thanks. QP
This behavior occurs when you create a folder on the Hotmail server that contains a forward slash (/) character in the folder name, and you attempt to read a message in that folder. /QP Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/252520 Have you created a folder (at www.hotmail.com) where the folder name includes a slash (e.g., "Mail from/to Joe")? The above notwithstanding, posts from others today who access their Hotmail accounts in OE suggest that there might be a temporary problem on Hotmail's end right now. PS: May I assume you're aware that the way you're accessing your Hotmail account in OE now (i.e., via WebDAV) will not be available after 01 September? I don't have any folders with a / character. Do you think that when I stop
using WebDAV to access my hotmail account, that the syncing address book feature may work again? I don't have any folders with a / character.
Then I'd assume something's wrong on Hotmail's end, Steve, or they've already started preparing for the end of WebDAV support. (In fact, I just tried doing such a sync and got the same error so that last bit may be true.) Do you think that when I stop using WebDAV to access my hotmail account, that the syncing address book feature may work again? Synchronizing Address Book with Hotmail Contacts is entirely-WebDAV dependent. When support for WebDAV ends on 01 September, you will not be able to sync at all. I'd strongly recommend getting all your ducks in a row and switching to (or at least adding) POP3 access no later than 25 August, just in case there's some additional tweaking you'll need to do. AFAIK, you should be able to access the account via POP3 and WebDAV simultaneously (at least until 01 September). Keep in mind that once WebDAV support ends, you won't be able to access any of your Hotmail-specific folders (cf. http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...403shu01_C.gif) in OE anymore. Of course, all of them will still be available at www.hotmail.com. -- ~PA Bear Steve B. wrote: I don't have any folders with a / character.
