That is a fairly generic error that can be caused by many things including
e-mail scanning, (turn it off), incorrect account settings, (double check them), modem problems, (reset it), and even server glitches. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/default...14&Product=oex -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP [Mail] Imperial Beach, CA "Ben Hopkins" wrote in message ... Your headers (Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6001.18000) suggest that you're
running Windows Mail in Vista, not Outlook Express. Windows Mail-specific newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...ows.vista.mail That being said... 1. Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says it's not necessary: QP Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. /QP http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tuto...ning/index.htm 2. Are you sure you've been able to send from this account in the past and that your ISP isn't blocking Port 25? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 www.banthecheck.com Ben Hopkins wrote: I have got this error message for the last 24 hours and am therefore unable to send emails. Your NNTP-Posting IP connection is hosted in Turkey. Very well could be that your ISP has started blocking outbound port 25. The 'mail.flyingmoon.com' server is not responding to Telnet to port 465, or port 587, so this will be difficult to work around. Does TurkTelekom, or whomever your ISP (on the TurkTelekon IP network) is offer email service? If so, perhaps you could use their SMTP Message Submission (outbound) mail server. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |
